Have you heard of "the cloud?" It's a term used to describe the ability to securely store your content on remote servers (in databases), as opposed to locally (on your computer). Your website accesses the cloud just like you do. It logs in with a user name and password, and collects the information you've stored to relay to visitors on your site. The beauty of the cloud is that you can access and modify your content from anywhere you have an internet connection, and is usually performed with a CMS.
There's a lot more that goes into making a website than making it look good.
